Train operator has announced special discounted fares for students as the summer comes to an end.

The generous discount will give students half-price off-peak fares for ScotRail services for the 21-day period from the 6th to the 26th of September, which is hoped will encourage students to get out and about, seeing friends or visiting different cities before the start of term begins.

Students will no doubt welcome the savings and appreciate the extra pounds in their pockets as they look forward to Freshers Week, whether this is their first time at university or returning for another year.

To get the discounts, all students need to do is show a valid student ID when buying their ticket at either a staffed station or onboard. The offer does not apply online and for advanced bookings.

Students can enjoy the discount with no limits on the number of times it can be used throughout the special offer time frame of the 6th to the 26th of September.

Off-Peak Return tickets will have return travel available for up to one month which would make the last date for any return travel using the offer the 25th of October. Off-Peak Day Return tickets will work as usual with outward and return journeys to be made within the same day.

The latest offer follows on from a similar one launched by ScotRail in December last year.

ScotRail wants to remind customers that the wearing of face coverings is the law and they must be worn onboard trains and at both open-air and covered stations unless medically exempt.

The wearing of face coverings helps towards reducing the spread of Covid-19 and even if vaccinated, it is still possible to catch and spread the virus.

Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said: “We think this half price deal on tickets will be really popular with students, whether they are getting around Scotland before terms starts, going to university for the first time or returning to continue their course.

“ScotRail is proud to be doing its bit to help our next generation of high achievers.
