has announced that they are giving students in Scotland a massive 50% discount off tickets for train travel this December.

Students will be able to take advantage of half-price travel on any off-peak ScotRail service until the 24th of December.

All a student needs to do is turn up at a staffed ticket office with their Student ID, jump on board and head home for .

They will need to record a negative COVID-19 test before travelling, but test appointments and the time taken to get a result will mean make it almost impossible to book specific train tickets.

The offer will be an open-return ticket which is valid for one month after being purchased which will allow students to return to studies in January after another negative test.

Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said: “Students are going through a hard enough time just now trying to keep up with their studies while worrying about catching and balancing their finances.

“We think this half-price deal on tickets is the best gift we can give them before Christmas and we're sure it will be very popular amongst students who want to get home to see loved ones at this special family time of the year.

“We are confident ScotRail will be able to carry all passengers safely over the festive period by observing the five rules for safer travel, including wearing a face covering and maintaining physical distancing.”

  • The Class 380 Desiro are very weird and well built trains manufactured by Siemens for ScotRail. They do look similar to the Class 185, Class 350, Class 360, Class 444 and Class 450. Maybe Siemens could of built more Desiro units. And could of built more Class 380s to replace the Class 314 and Class 318.
