Steam locomotive to visit Buxton this Wednesday

A steam locomotive from the Locomotive Services Ltd pool will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and around Buxton on Wednesday 29th September 2021.

RailAdvent is awaiting confirmation on which locomotive will haul this Wednesday’s tour – but we have been advised it could be Black 5 45231 The Sherwood Forester.

The locomotive is on a special railtour on Wednesday with the steam locomotive hauling The Buxton Spa Express.

The railtour will depart Hereford behind a diesel locomotive at 05:58 and will then head to Crewe, making stops at Leominster (06:13), Ludlow (06:26), Craven Arms (06:39), Church Stretton (06:52), Shrewsbury (07:09) and Crewe at 07:54, where the steam locomotive is added to the train.

With the steam locomotive added, the train will depart at 08:48 and will pass through Stafford (09:15), Rugeley Trent Valley (09:33), Lichfield Trent Valley (09:47), Burton-on-Trent (10:06), Derby (10:25), Chesterfield (11:25), Grindleford (11:45), Edale (11:57) and Buxton at 13:24.

The return trip will depart Buxton at 15:39 and will pass through New Mills Central (16:50), Romiley (16:56), Woodley (16:59), Woodley (17:48), Romiley (17:50), New Mills Central (18:01), Edale (18:18), Bamford (18:29), Grindleford (18:35), Chesterfield (18:59), Derby (19:43), Burton on Trent (20:51), Rugeley Trent Valley (21:24), Stafford (21:45) and Crewe at 22:15.

With the diesel locomotive now back in charge, the train will head back to Hereford, making stops at Shrewsbury (23:10), Church Stretton (23:38), Craven Arms (23:49), Ludlow (23:59), Leominster (00:14) and Hereford at 00:30.
