The British Transport Police are urging locals to enjoy the visit of Flying Scotsman today, 25th September, to Skegness safely.

The BTP are reminding those wanting to see the famous steam locomotive about the dangers of standing too close to the tracks.

Flying Scotsman is hauling a tour through Lincolnshire to Skegness, with rail enthusiasts expected to flock to stations to capture the locomotive.

Are you heading out to see Flying Scotsman today? Let us know in the comments below.

Chief Inspector Gareth Davies said: “The Flying Scotsman visiting Lincolnshire is an exciting event for many people and we want everyone who is looking forward to seeing the spectacular steam engine to have a great day out.

“Our priority is the safety of everyone viewing and travelling on the train, and our officers will be along the route and at stations to ensure everyone can enjoy the event without putting themselves or others in danger.

“We’re urging everyone to please plan ahead, use safe vantage points to view and take pictures of the train, stay clear of the line, and do not to risk your safety and that of others by trespassing on the tracks.

“I can’t emphasise strongly enough how imperative it is that spectators do not venture onto the railway. As well as the Scotsman, regular services will be running across the region – these are often much quieter than people expect and can be upon you in an instant.

“We will actively pursue and take positive action against those who trespass – it carries a fine of up to £1,000 and could leave you with a criminal record.

“If you witness anyone trespassing on the railway line, you can contact us by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40.”

  • Was on train came up from Kings X shame they couldn’t organise groups for people to view loco close up at Skegness I texted my sister and brother in law to get up side of track somewhere and they got a good view

  • I was on board The Jolly Fisherman. We were rather worried about trespass.
As it turned out it was very good, those that did trespass tended to be people of the 60plus age group who should know better.
I noticed police stationed at several points and it became obvious they were dearly needed.

I would love to see steam on a regular basis return to Skegness.
I loved it and as far as I could ascertain so did others on board.
I give huge thanks to the Railway Touring Company in organising an amazing day.

    Thank you.

  • Falsely advertised, I drove my friend from Sheffield to Skegness to see the Flying Scotsman, only to find out it would be reversing in and the platform closed, so it would be impossible to see the Train let alone take photos of it. I think it was a ploy just to get enthusiasts to go to Skegness, so once there they would decide to stay and probably spend money, rather than just turning around and going home. Shame on you Skegness. I myself am not bothered about said train, but I do love Skegness, and especially Ingoldmells, but the friend I brought was really disappointed because if I am not to be mistaken, her Great Grandfather was involved when it was first commissioned.

    • Dragged in cos there is nowhere to turn a locomotive.
The times were a secret until the last moment cos of trespass.
If you wanted to see FS then out of town would have been better.

  • Was very disappointed wasn’t even sure it was the flying Scotsmen that arrived in skegness today 25th Sept what was the point as the engine was about several carriagees away couldn’t even take a photo very sad effort 😢😞😔

  • Saw her on out bound leg at Wainfleet, shame she was been dragged by a diesel backwards, then popped into Vegas in afternoon to see if I could catch her whilst on layover. Looked stunning and I can’t wait for next month when she meets her cousin Tornado up at Border City
