Dalesman steam train set to pass through Settle and Ribblehead this Tuesday

A steam locomotive will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and around Carlisle on Tuesday 14th September 2021.

The locomotive is hauling The Dalesman. The tour sees the steam locomotive steam through Ribblehead on its way to Carlisle.

Hauled by a diesel locomotive, the train will depart Chester at approximately 07:35 am.

The tour will stop at Frodsham around 07:49 for a 4-minute break, departing at 07:53. The diesel locomotive will then make stops at Warrington Bank Quay (08:05), Wigan North Western (08:28) and Leyland (08:48) and Preston (09:05) to pick up passengers.

The tour then reverses and heads for Blackburn (09:41), Clitheroe (10:10) and Hellifield at 10:31, where the steam locomotive joins the train.

From Hellifield, the steam locomotive passes through Horton in Ribblesdale (11:17), Ribblehead (11:24), Garsdale (11:38), Appleby (12:00) and Carlisle at 12:52.

On the return trip, the steam locomotive will depart Carlisle at 15:20 before heading via Penrith North Lakes (16:10), Tebay (16:50), Oxenholme Lake District (17:03) and Carnforth South Junction at 17:47, where the steam loco is taken off the train.

The diesels take over from steam and will pass through Preston (18:56), Leyland (19:10), Wigan North Western (19:36), Warrington Bank Quay (19:49), Frodsham (20:05) and Chester at 20:30.
