Steam locomotive 7029 Clun Castle returns to the mainline in Birmingham this Weekend!

has confirmed that GWR Castle No. 7029 Clun Castle will return to the mainline this weekend.

Back in July, the Castle locomotive was pulled from service right before the start of The Shakespeare Express trains.

The cause of the fault was a steam leak within the boiler, which emanated from the superheater header.

Work started right away, but meant that the private charters and the subsequent Shakespeare Express trains were all diesel hauled, either by Class 47 or Class 20.

In addition to the news that 7029 Clun Castle is returning to the mainline, Vintage Trains has announced that an additional Shakespeare Express will run on the 5th of September, giving passengers another chance to ride behind Clun Castle.
