GB Railfreight make their largest investment to date with a £3 million head quarters in Peterborough

The brand new HQ for was opened by Rail Minister Chris Heaton-Harris MP this week in a celebration of this huge investment in the local community by the rail freight operator.

The headquarters will be home to their train crew and office staff and will also house their 24-hour control centre, incorporating training, operations and asset management departments.

Leading the industry in training for those looking towards a career in rail freight, GBRf has developed three exclusive purpose-specific classrooms which feature advanced simulators which will be used to teach future talent from the local area and further afield.

2021 will see 120 people advance their skills at the training facility for a number of different roles, from trainee drivers to apprenticeships.

The headquarters have been developed with both sustainability and wellbeing in mind with the centre featuring solar panels, electric vehicle charging points, along with cycle storage. On-site features also include a catering hub and shower facilities for staff working around the clock.

“Our rail freight sector has kept our country and economy moving through the pandemic, and we will continue to support the growth of this key industry, particularly as we look to decarbonise transport and deliver net-zero by 2050.”
