Dalesman steam train set to run this Thursday, passing through Ribblehead on its way to Carlisle

A West Coast Railways steam locomotive will be heading to this Thursday (2nd September 2021) as it heads a section of The Dalesman.

The locomotive will be heading from Hellifield to Carlisle and return.

The tour will depart York at 08:25 behind a diesel locomotive, before heading via Church Fenton (08:37), Normanton (09:24), Wakefield Kirkgate (09:31), Wakefield Westgate (09:39), Leeds (09:58), Keighley (10:40), Skipton (10:54) and Hellifield Goods Loop at 11:11.

Here, the steam locomotive is added to the train, departing at 12:29, the locomotive will head via (12:55), Kirkby Stephen (13:19), Appleby (13:31) and Carlisle at 14:24.

The return trip will see the locomotive depart Carlisle at 16:27 before heading via Appleby (17:14) and Settle Jn (18:28), heading into Hellifield at 18:34, where the steam locomotive leaves the train.

The diesel locomotive will take over the train, heading via Skipton (19:49), Shipley (20:26), Leeds (20:44), Wakefield Westgate (21:12), Wakefield Kirkgate (21:18), Normanton (21:26), Church Fenton (21:56) and finally York at 22:20.

  • I did this very enjoyable trip on a very hot day 2 years ago, We were held up for ages at Hellifield by a slightly warped point blade on the return journey but amazingly made up the time between Hellifield and York. There must have been a lot of padding in the schedule.
