Tornado steam locomotive to pass through Oxenholme Lake District this Friday!

Steam locomotive 60163 Tornado will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in Tebay and Carlisle Friday 30th July 2021.

The LNER A1 locomotive is on a section of a special railtour with 60163 Tornado hauling The Northern Belle.

The tour starts from Coventry behind diesel locomotives. Departing Coventry at 07:18, the train will pass through Birmingham International (07:28), Wolverhampton (08:25), Stafford (08:42), Stoke-on-Trent (09:17), Crewe (09:41) and Preston (10:27) before arriving into Carnforth North Junction at 10:52.

Here, 60163 Tornado is added to the train. Departing here at 11:26, the steam train will make its way through Oxenholme Lake District (11:41), Tebay (11:57), Penrith North Lakes (12:20) and Carlisle at 12:41.

After around 90 minutes in Carlisle, 60163 will depart at 14:19 and will pass through Lazonby & Kirkoswald (14:46), Appleby (15:06), Garsdale (15:43), Ribblehead (15:55), Hellifield (16:20), Clitheroe (17:11), Whalley (17:16), Blackburn (17:33), and Preston (17:54).

Here 60163 Tornado is taken off the train and is replaced by diesel locomotives. The tour returns to Coventry via Crewe (19:31), Stoke-on-Trent (19:56), Stafford (20:18), Wolverhampton (20:58), Birmingham International (21:49) and Coventry at 22:08.

Meanwhile, 60163 Tornado will form 5Z55 1812 Preston to Carnforth Steamtown. Departing Preston at 18:12, it will pass through Lancaster (18:42) and Carnforth (18:55) before arriving back at Carnforth Steamtown at 19:17.***
