Passengers can now benefit from free and unlimited WiFi at Lime Street station as part of the station upgrade and also Network Rails commitment ‘putting passengers first' to provide unlimited WiFi across managed stations nationwide.

The WiFi is fast enough for video calls and streaming and uses Network Rail's upgraded service which is using the latest technology providing passengers with seamless connectivity over multiple devices without the need to create an account to log in. The Wifi can simply be accessed by accepting terms and conditions and clicking ‘Connect'

The certified ‘Friendly WiFi' is compliant with the Government safe filtering standards which makes it child-friendly.  The need for better quality free WiFi was established following feedback from passengers.

The WiFi is being launched as the traveling public come back to the railway as Covid measures are lifted next week (Monday, July the 19th 2021). With an anticipated increase in travel.

Providing unlimited WiFi will enable passengers to use social media, stream music, podcasts, videos, browsing etc with no download limits this upgrade will no doubt be well received by passengers especially those who use journey time to work.

Network Rail will be rolling the new unlimited WiFi throughout its managed stations with the largest 19 stations coming online before the end of 2021. The stations so far are Bristol Temple Meads, , London Paddington, Victoria, Euston, Waterloo, King's Cross and London Bridge.

Phil James, Network Rail's North West route director, said: “Passengers have told us that to enhance and improve things for them and free WiFi was a must – so, we've provided it. I'd urge anyone to take advantage of the new reliable and secure service when travelling through the station.

“This is the first station in the North West with the free upgraded WiFi. Next up is Manchester Piccadilly”.

Robbie Humphreys, shift station manager at Liverpool Lime Street station, said: “It's a great improvement for our passengers -, it's free to connect, you don't need to enter any personal information, and it's one of the fastest data connections you can get.

“It's part of our wider efforts to encourage passengers back to rail travel and we can assure people they can travel in confidence. The station team has worked really hard to keep passengers safe throughout the pandemic and we will continue to do so.”
