has confirmed that the full bridge replacement to Manton Bridge in has been completed.

Earlier this year, Network Rail announced that they would be replacing the Manton Bridge, carrying the railway line that connects Oakham to Leicester, Peterborough and Kettering.

Assessments of the old bridge found it was due for replacing in the coming years, with its age being over 150 years!

Once all design and preparation work was completed, in April this year Network Rail starting getting the bridge and surrounding site ready for demolishing the old bridge and fitting the new bridge.

In order to undertake the work safely, the A6003, the main road linking the market towns of Oakham and Uppingham, was closed for roughly 12 weeks. Train services had small disruption to services.

The A3006 is open as usual, with CrossCountry and East Midland Railway services and freight trains operating as normal. Network Rail plans to fully leave the site by Friday 30th of July 2021. The new bridge will ensure trains can run safely in the decades to come.

Route Director for Network Rail's East Midlands route Gary Walsh said: “This has been a complex job which has significantly affected road users.  I am pleased that we handed the road back on schedule and thank everyone for their patience while we carried out this essential investment.

“The line that Manton bridge carries and the A6003 which runs underneath it are both vital links for people in Rutland. Completing this project means that people can travel across the region safely and reliably for years to come.”
