Barrow Hill Roundhouse has announced it will be partnering with Rail Operations Group to provide shuttle services to the 2021 Rail Ale Festival.
Services will be running on Friday the 10th of September and Saturday the 11th of September 2021.
The addition of Class 37's 37510 and 37800 with a Class 57 at the rear will only add to the excitement of the well-loved event.
Morning departures will travel via Sheffield and the Old Road to Barrow Hill being hauled by 37510 on the Friday, and 37800 will be providing services on the Saturday along with a class 57 on the rear.
As ever in the heritage world, locomotives cannot be guaranteed and will be subject to availability, but we can keep our fingers crossed and hope to see class 37's on the rails for this event.
The Rail Ale festival runs annually at Barrow Hill Roundhouse and it is always a huge success. Sadly in 2020, the event was cancelled due to Covid but the organisers are keeping fingers and toes crossed that this years event will remain on track.
The festival runs on the 10th and 11th of September 2021 for members of the public and also the 9th which is a Trade & VIP day.
The event will feature an incredible lineup of more than 350 real ales, ciders, the Gin Palace along with the Wine & Prosecco Bar. As ever at the event there is a fabulous musical lineup in the marquee and main stage and the food court offers a variety of foods from porkpies to pancakes!
Barrow Hill Roundhouse is a fantastic location for the event and especially important as it is Britain's last surviving working Roundhouse, which closed in 1991, and thankfully rescued by a group of dedicated volunteers.
The Roundhouse features the turntable, shear legs (lifting gear) with a changing display of both diesel and steam locomotives along with rolling stock.
Barrow Hill also features an operational signal box, the Roundhouse Halt platform and Springwell Branch line and is also home to the Deltic Preservation Societies maintenance depot which also features a museum.
Barrow Hill Roundhouse is currently closed due to Covid, but the hope is to re-open to the public during the weekend of 7th and 8th of August 2021.
