Network Rail has completed a huge programme of upgrades and renewals in the Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire areas which will keep passengers on the move safely and reliably across the region.
The programme consists of renewal of half a mile of track north of Trowse swing bridge, renewal of one mile of rail at Tharston, renewed track, sleepers and ballast as Wassicks level crossing north of Hughley Junction.
Also, being completed were replacements of wheel timbers between Ely and Norwich and also at Manea, which is between Ely and Peterborough.
Re-signalling work has also been completed on the Wherry Lines between Norwich, Lowestoft and Yarmouth, and maintenance work has been finished on the Oulton Broad swing bridge.
These busy lines have been upgraded after wear and tear over time and are essential to keep the lines in good working order and also means that trains run safely and reliably and that means fewer delays for both passengers and freight.
The upgrades began in May this year and completed on the 27th of June 2021.
Ellie Burrows, Network Rail's route director for Anglia, said: “We understand how frustrating it is when journeys are delayed and that's why we've completed this programme of upgrades and renewals across the rail network over the last two months. This work is essential to keep services running safely and reliably and aims to prevent delays caused by infrastructure faults.”

And maybe Network Rail should continue with the overhead wiring replacement on the Southend Victoria Line between Prittlewell and Southend Victoria. As the Class 720s have started operating on the Southend Victoria Line.
