Train operator have advised passengers about changes at railway station ready for the new trains which are being introduced.

Following plans revealed last year, the old station building (pictured above) has been demolished. A temporary ticket office has been built while the new building is completed.

The £4m project includes a new ticket office, and upgraded accessible waiting hall with seats and charging points.

CCTV and improved customer information screens will be installed, along with new toilets.

A new shop will serve hot drinks and food.

Platform 1 at the station will be extended for the new longer trains, so while that work takes place between 3rd and 21st June, all trains for the Southminster line will depart from platform 4.

Platform 4 is accessible via the footbridge. Passengers who need step free access can use the south exit and go directly onto platforms 3/4.

Paula Wilson, Greater Anglia's Area Customer Service Manager, said: “We advise passengers to familiarise themselves with the changes before they travel and to allow extra time for their journeys, if they need to.

“We are investing in Wickford to make it better for our customers. The proposed work will transform the station, bringing in new facilities for the 2.2 million people who use the station each year.

“This work is essential to allow us to run our new, longer trains to and from Wickford and it is a good opportunity to also upgrade customer facilities at the station.

“We are transforming the railway in East Anglia, with a complete fleet of new trains and £60 million worth of improvements to stations.”

  • Maybe they could knock down the old footbridge and replace it with a new one with lifts so that Wickford railway station is step-free.
