The new announcement is being played at the train operating companies stations across South West London.

Recorded by Pippa Watson, a local nurse, the announcement reminds passengers to follow the Government Guidance on social distancing and wearing a face-covering unless exempt.

The idea for the announcement came from her colleagues who thought she had just the right voice for station announcements.

Pippa uses the train to commute to work on South Western Railway trains.

Pippa said: “The rules on social distancing and face coverings are crucial to keeping everyone safe and I hope this announcement helps to raise awareness of their importance.

“As a nurse who uses SWR services to commute, I ask all my fellow passengers to follow these rules to help stop the spread of coronavirus and protect me, my colleagues, and the entire NHS.”

South Western Railway's Customer Experience Director, Alan Penlington said: “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we have been committed to running a safe and reliable service for key workers such as Pippa.

“As we all look forward to this bank holiday weekend, we hope that this announcement will encourage our customers to follow Government guidance on social distancing and face coverings, so they can protect our NHS.”
