Passengers who use Perry Barr station in Birmingham are being reminded that they will need to make alternative plans from next week as the station closes for redevelopment.
There will be no train services at the station from Monday 10th May until May 2022 as the station is being demolished and will be rebuilt with new facilities.
Train operator West Midlands Railway says that passengers should use nearby Witton railway station or local buses to complete their journey while the station is closed.
Plans for the new station were submitted for approval at the end of 2020 and include a new ticket office, lifts, step-free access new cycle facilities and seating areas.
West Midlands Railway has set up a dedicated page with details of alternative travel arrangements, and details of ticketing arrangements.
The redevelopment of Perry Barr station is being managed by Transport for the West Midlands, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority, and the West Midlands Rail Executive.
Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: “The current station building at Perry Barr is in need of improvement work and this welcome modernisation project will make a real difference to our customers. Due to the scale of the work required it has not been possible to keep the station open and I am urging passengers who need access to the railway to plan their travel carefully. Our team at Perry Barr are already looking forward to welcoming customers back to their new station building next year.”
