John Hall, a 61-year-old man, has been jailed for carrying a Stanley knife at Leeds station following an investigation by the British Transport Police.
Mr Hall, from Bradford, pleaded guilty to carrying the bladed article at Leeds Magistrates Court on Thursday, 29th April.
John Hall has been sentenced to 20 weeks in jail and ordered to pay £115 in victim surcharges.
John Hall and a group of friends were travelling on a train from Scarborough to Leeds on Saturday 30th March 2019, and were reported for their loud and abusive behaviour.
Officers spoke to the group at Leeds station, but Mr Hall refused to cooperate and became aggressive and obstructive towards the officers.
The intoxicated man began to move away from officers as they tried to detain him, stumbling and becoming more aggressive, even going as far as raising a first to a female officer.
After being arrested for being drunk and disorderly, John Hall was found to be in possession of a Stanley knife.
Investigating officer Grace Bower said: “Everyone should be able to travel without fear of abuse.”
“Instead of complying with officers Hall's behaviour escalated the situation which led to his arrest. He was later found to be carrying a blade.”
“No one should feel intimated or afraid by the behaviour of another.
“Hopefully, the sentence handed down will give Hall cause to contemplate his actions.”
