has released a short update on what has been happening in April.

April was a difficult month for the project, whilst weld repairs were being completed at Riley and Son, a significant crack was found on one of the trailing wheel pans.

Repairs on this started at the end of March, but the cracking was found to be more serious than first thought and after inspection, it was been decided that the wheel will be scrapped and the five other driving wheels will be tested for cracks.

More bad news came in April as the LMS Patriot Project was told that the material for the axle replacement from South Africa is now not expected until Autumn 2022 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Alternative suppliers are being looked into as a result of the long lead time.

Work has reduced at West Shed as 6233 Duchess of Sutherland is worked on in preparation for her return to mainline duties in 2021. However, work has progressed on the expansion link trunnions.
