Steam locomotive 9466 set for mainline return – Vintage Trains confirm 2021 tour dates

Vintage Trains are back with a bang as a variety of trains are planned to run in 2021, with new routes and visiting locomotives.

In 2021, Vintage Trains will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of both the railways run by volunteers and the Stephenson Locomotive Society with a special railtour to Swindon Works. 5043 Earl of Edgcumbe will haul this tour.

On the 2nd October, Vintage Trains will celebrate the return of steam on the mainline, with a return trip to Hereford.

6233 Duchess of Sutherland will be working hard on the Welsh Marches, Midland Mainlines and GWR lines. Pannier Tank 9466 will return to the mainline, banking trains on the Lickey Incline, and visiting Class 20s will haul trains to Skegness, Llandudno, Weston Super Mare and Scarborough.

Meanwhile, The Shakespeare Express will start on the 18th July 2021 for nine consecutive Sundays of steam through Warwickshire, overall, the train will operate on thirteen dates whilst steam passes through the Warwickshire countryside.

For the first time, four Saturday trains will operate out and back via Henley in Arden, with themed evenings on selected Saturdays.

Trains will start at Birmingham Snow Hill and will see 5043 Earl of Mount Edgecumbe make her debut on The Shakespeare Express after overhaul.

BR Class 20s will join Tyseley’s Class 47 47773 The Queen Mother, fresh from overhaul and repaint, to haul tours and assist trains where operational rules apply.
