Diss Station will have a makeover thanks to volunteers, train operating company Greater Anglia has announced.
A group of six volunteers from the Diss area have transformed the external appearance of Diss Railway Station, by weeding and tidying followed by planting flowers around the station.
The scheme aims to improve the cosmetic look of the station, in turn boosting passenger satisfaction and the Diss local economy.
On top of the revamped garden areas, adding for example birdboxes will hopefully encourage more wildlife. More stations within Greater Anglia's area of operation will hopefully undergo similar work.
One of the latest volunteers, Heather, has a passion for gardening, a hobby she has more time since retiring. She commented: “In normal times, many people pass through Diss on the trains and it will be lovely if, in future, they were to see the flower displays and feel like they want to get off and explore our beautiful town. I also hope to be able to encourage some wildlife through the plants we choose.”
Heather will be joined by Park Radio volunteers, Amanda, Ann, Katie, Nikki and Chris. 23 other stations have already been adopted by station adopters.
Greater Anglia's Customer and Community Engagement Manager Alan Neville said: “I'm delighted to welcome Heather to the Station Adoption initiative and look forward to hearing her ideas for brightening up the station and, along with the existing fantastic team from Park Radio, making it a welcoming environment ready for when the current pandemic restrictions can be lifted.”
