The has released an update on the progress being made on the new lights that will be fitted to P2 steam locomotive No. 2007 Prince of Wales.

Recent work has seen the team redesigning the electrical systems used in No.60163 “Tornado” for use in No.2007 “Prince of Wales”.

The system used in 60163 no longer meets current standards and requirements.

The overhaul of the electrical circuit will also be the first in using Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-RA), the new method the company has chosen to perform risk assessments.

Also being redesigned is a new way of starting the turbogen. The new setup should mean crews will not need to manually start the turbogens.

The next stage in developing this new system is to conduct tests on “Tornado” when the locomotive is next in service. The Turbogen Club has been formed to fund the cost of obtaining one of two needed for 2007. More information can be found here.

Finally, the team are working out the lights to be fitted on the P2. Two original Stones marker lamp housings will be fitted to the rear of the tender.
