Students travelling home for Christmas have change of journey fees waived

The Department for Transport has announced that change of journey fees for students travelling home for Christmas will be waived.

Students travelling home for Christmas, who booked tickets before the recently announced travel window, can now rebook their tickets for travel between the 3rd and 9th of December without paying additional fees to change the date.

Any Advance tickets bought before the 11th of November with a travel date after the 9th of December can now change them to be inside the travel window without paying the change of journey fee, which is up to £10.

Off-Peak and Anytime tickets can already be rebooked without paying a fee.

The travel window is designed to allow students to return home while minimising the risk of transmission of .

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “Students will be eager to be at home with their families after an unprecedented autumn term, and travelling during this window enables them to do so as safely as possible.

“By waiving change of journey fees, they can now rebook their tickets without being left out of pocket.”
