The Holden F5 Locomotive Trust has released a short engineering update on their project to build GER steam locomotive No. 789.
The frames for the locomotive were recently positioned inside the workshop at Tyseley.
This has signified the starting of the construction of the locomotive.
Meanwhile, the castings have been removed from storage, and have been cleaned and painted ahead of being fixed to the frames.
The first task of the build will be to rivet the diamond stay to the rear of the frames and to remove the temporary stretcher, this was first installed to allow the transportation of the frames to Tyseley earlier in 2020.
In the coming weeks, the cylinder halves, that have already been machined, will be prepared for additional machining and bolting together before these are also fitted to the frames.
Whilst all this work is good news, and the fact that the Trust has received a legacy to pay for the loco to become a rolling chassis is also excellent news, the trust still needs help to bring 789 to life.
