Wednesday 2nd September 2020 saw LMS Rebuilt Royal Scot No. 46100 Royal Scot haul the final Fellsman tour of 2020 from Crewe to Carlisle and return via the Settle & Carlisle Line.
The Fellsman is a railtour run by Saphos Trains which runs from Crewe to Carlisle and return along the world-famous Settle & Carlisle Line. The Fellsman usually runs from late spring into summer, however, due to Covid-19 all of The Fellsmans due to run before 15th July were postponed into late August and early September.
The first two Fellsmans of 2020 were hauled by BR 7MT Britannia No. 70000 Britannia on 15th July and 19th August with Britannia sadly failing at Carlisle with hotbox issues, and the final two being hauled by LMS Royal Scot No. 46100 Royal Scot on 26th August and 2nd September.
This Fellsman trip was originally due to run on 27th May, and be the first of the year, but with lockdown restrictions still in place, it was postponed to 2nd September making this tour the final Fellsman of 2020.
This tour would also mark the second time that Royal Scot has visited the S&C in preservation.
The Fellsman would see 46100 head through places such as Acton Bridge, Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western, Leyland, Bamber Bridge, Blackburn, Ramsgreave & Wilpshire, Clitheroe, Hellifield, Settle, Horton-in-Ribblesdale, Ribblehead, Garsdale, Kirkby Stephen & Appleby.

- Winwick Junction, near Warrington, Cheshire, passing through at 08:27 1 minute late.
- Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, passing through at 09:35 1 minute late.
- Ramsgreave & Wilpshire, Lancashire, passing through at 10:01 2 minutes late.
- Selside, North Yorkshire, passing through at 11:22 3 minutes late.
The return leg would see the Scot at:
- Ais Gill, Cumbria, passing through at 17:24, 11 minutes late.
- Ramsgreave & Wilpshire, Lancashire, passing through at 19:11 5 minutes early.
- Euxton Balshaw Lane, Lancashire, passing through 20:06 6 minutes late.
- Acton Bridge, Cheshire, passing through at 21:07 11 minutes late.
Info about 46100 Royal Scot:
- Designed by Sir Henry Fowler
- Built by The LMS in 1930 at Derby Works
- Originally numbered and named 6152 The Kings Dragoon Guardsman.
- In 1933 she swapped identities with 6100 Royal Scot and from there on she remained as Royal Scot.
- In 1933 after identity swap she was shipped over to the USA for the Century of Progression Exposition in Chicago and also toured the US & Canada.
- Rebuild designed by Sir William Stanier
- Rebuilt in 1950 by BR in 1950 at Crewe Works
- She was withdrawn from BR in 1962
- She was purchased for preservation by Billy Butlin of Butlins Holiday Camps where she was put on display in Skegness
- After moving to Bressingham Steam Museum in 1971, she returned to steam in 1972 until 1978 where she was put back on display and then sold to Bressingham in 1989.
- She returned to steam in 2009 but ran into many problems.
- She properly returned to steam in 2015 under the ownership of the Royal Scot Locomotive & General Trust and returned to the mainline for the first time since 1962 in 2016
- Royal Scot hauls railtours around the country hauling tours for Saphos Trains.

Royal Scot and The Kings Dragoon Guardsmen never actually swapped identities permanently turns out it’s just a myth. Records actually prove the opposite: there have never been records of two 6100s and 6152s.
