Steam locomotive Royal Scot will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and around Shrewsbury on Saturday 5th September 2020.

RailAdvent is awaiting confirmation on which locomotive will haul this Saturday’s tour, but we believe this to be 46100 Royal Scot.

The locomotive is on a special railtour on Saturday with 46100 Royal Scot hauling The Welsh Marches Express. The tour sees the steam locomotive steam through Shrewsbury and Hereford on its way to Cardiff Central.

The railtour will depart Liverpool Lime Street behind a diesel locomotive at 06:24 and will pass through Liverpool South Parkway (06:37), Runcorn (06:50), Hartford (07:13), and Crewe at 07:32 – where 46100 Royal Scot is added to the train.

The railtour will then leave Crewe at 08:16, and will then pass through Whitchurch (08:43), Shrewsbury (09:09), Church Stretton (09:33), Hereford (10:18), Abergavenny (11:37), Cwmbran (11:53), Newport (12:36) and Cardiff Central at 13:00.

On the return trip, 46100 Royal Scot will depart Cardiff Central at 15:48, and will then pass through Newport (16:08), Pontypool & New Inn (16:35), Abergavenny (16:46), Hereford (17:15), Ludlow (18:37), Craven Arms (19:05), Shrewsbury (19:33), Wem (19:49), Whitchurch (19:57), Nantwich (20:07) and Crewe at 20:18.

46100 Royal Scot is detached at Crewe, and the diesels will take over. Departing Crewe at 21:03, the train will pass through Hartford (21:21), Runcorn (21:35), Liverpool South Parkway (21:46) and Liverpool Lime Street at 22:01.
