North Eastern Railway has announced that today it has introduced a number of extra trains to the timetable, adding more than 1,600 seats for passengers each weekday.

The new timetable came into effect from today, Monday 7th September 2020, and will see extra train services return to the timetable, including ten additional Anglo-Scottish services.

The timetable increase follows the recent introduction of the to Bradford Forester Square train service.

LNER Managing Director, David Horne, said: “The changes that we're introducing from 7 September will increase our service levels from around 75 per cent up to 85 per cent of our pre-COVID timetable, so it's a significant step forward as we welcome more passengers back to our services

“These additional services will also provide a welcome boost to communities along with our the route, such as Peterborough, York and Newcastle, which are just some of the destinations set to benefit.

“We are seeing more people travelling on our trains and these extra services will ensure that we can maintain social distancing in the coming weeks. We continue to work hard to ensure that travel on our trains is safe, with enhanced cleaning on trains and at our stations, complemented by our reservation-only approach to ensure everyone has a socially distanced seat.”

LNER will continue to run a reservation-only train service and is offering limited catering to maintain social distancing.

  • Maybe LNER should add famous people’s names onto their Class 800 and Class 801 Azuma sets. Just like what GWR have added famous people’s names onto their Class 800 and Class 802 IET sets.

  • What about new services including Bradford Interchange, Harrogate, Middlesbrough, Grimsby, Scarborough, Whitby, Saltburn and Redcar. With Class 800 Bi-Mode IETs being used on those routes. As they can go anywhere on the East Coast network. And Class 801s being used on London KX-Leeds, York, Bradford Forester Square, Newcastle and Edinburgh Waverley as they are Electric IETs. With Class 800s also being used on London KX-Lincoln service.
