Second episode of TransPennine Express TV show airs TONIGHT

The second episode of The Railway 24/7 will air on Channel 5 tonight and will go behind the scenes at during freak storms.

Episode two of the series sees Storm Ciara bring havoc to the network, blocking lines and leaving passengers stranded.

With 80mph winds and railways flooded, Head of Customer Experience Change Adam must rescue passengers and try to find other ways home for them.

The episode also shows the British Transport Police working a night shift, with officers being called to Stockport station when a group of young men refuse to leave the station.

In Hull, station supervisor, Dave, has the challenge of putting 20 trains away for the night, but they all have to be put away in the right order.

Thousands of football fans swamp the network and Jess, a conductor has a crowd of Scunthorpe fans on her train.

Finally, Duty Control Manager Ann has to deal with a broken down train, shes tracked down a replacement train, but no conductor for it. Ann then sends Patricia in a taxi down the M6 in a bid to get the replacement train departing on time.

Liz Collins, Interim Managing Director at TransPennine Express, said: “The reaction to the series so far has been fantastic to see, and we're excited to give our customers and regular commuters a further insight into the inner workings behind our operation in episode two.

“Storm Ciara was dubbed ‘storm of the century', and it certainly brought chaos to the TransPennine network, so I'm sure viewers will be interested to see how it impacted us and how we dealt with the crisis.”

The second episode of The Railway 24/7 will be aired on Wednesday 17 June at 9 pm on Channel 5.

  • Oh, I forgot to add this about the programme makers.
    By its very subject, it will attract a lot of younger folk interested in the subject matter.
    Why then did they not blank out the foul language used by the Siemens engineer (?) when
    the axle was offered up and found not to fit ? (Yes, there was a caution about language in the introduction by the TV continuity person, but nothing on screen) I would suggest that younger folk watch instead the repeats of the Inside Glasgow Central programmes currently airing on BBC 2, even the football fans there did not swear and the conductor on a TPX 350 shew
    the other side of TPX, ie ‘running on time’

  • I cannot share the above comments about the programme.
    Week 1 was about 50% of the programme was about the after effects of another operators unit
    having derailed outside Ardwick depot (A Northern Trains 323, why was it there, why no
    talk in the programme about it being so) The second week was again about another company,
    this time Siemens who are contracted to look after TPX class 185 & 450’s) How on earth
    the engineers forgot to clean the bearing surfaces before offering the new axle up to it
    was basic engineering by monkeys ( yes, the ones who are supposedly making the trains safe)
    and am I the only one who noticed that the job was completed just as the end of their shift was up ? Then they filled the programme up with an event that occurs each end every night at Hull Paragon, it was not worth the air time. Oh, lastly the broken down ex Scottish train that needed a replacement set and a conductor, that would not have been one of the much vaunted new electro-whizz sets that we saw them lauding the week before was it ?

  • I have to say. I love Railway 24/7 on Channel 5. And its all about Transpennine Express and their services, staff, trains and much more. Best show on Channel 5.

  • I do like The Railway 24/7 on Channel 5. Perhaps there could be a new program all about Northern Trains and how they maintain their trains and services and the problems they have faced in resent years.

    And when Arriva took over from Abellio Northern franchise and earlier this year they lost the franchise to DfT/Government owned Northern Trains franchise. And with the new rolling stocks including Class 195 and Class 331 CAF Civity.
