Rail workers donate PPE to NHS staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary

The NHS staff at Royal Infirmary have been donated personal protective equipment (PPE) during the coronavirus crisis by staff at .

The East Coast Main Line team has a very important role to play to make sure that the railway is running safely and reliably. Stuart Frame is an Area Manager, and all his team make sure they are no issues affecting the railway. For example reported trespassers, or signalling faults, amongst other issues.

Stuart and his teams' essential work they do every day means all the trains can run with no problems. So people who have to travel to work and cannot work at home, like the NHS staff doctors and nurses.

The team have gathered together spare supplies of vital PPE. This has been delivered to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The PPE included 140 overalls and 25 pairs of protective goggles to be used by frontline NHS workers.

Network Rail is encouraging more workers to sign up and volunteer their skills where possible to help the NHS.

What did the officials say?

Stuart Frame, Area Manager for Network Rail, said:

“Our teams work hard to keep vital train services moving and I'm so proud that that they've managed to gather the spare supplies to get equipment to where it is needed during these challenging times.

“NHS staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary are doing an amazing job and we wanted to support them where we can with any extra PPE.

“Many people across Network Rail are doing their bit to support frontline NHS workers, and it's great to see more teams getting involved.”

Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said:

“On behalf of the Trust, I want to thank Network Rail for this kind donation which will help to keep colleagues safe as we tackle Covid-19.

“On a personal note, I have been truly moved by the support we have received from our communities and share my deep appreciation for those who have shown such extraordinary kindness during these challenging times.”
