Network Rail, and train operator, Transport for Wales, have released a statement following another weekend of wet and windy weather from Storm Jorge.
Storm Jorge hit Wales over this weekend (29/02 and 01/03) and brought more rain and wind to an already saturated Wales after Storm Ciara and Dennis hit in February 2020.
The following lines remain closed:
- Cardiff Valley Lines:
- Aberdare – Subject to assessments today (Sunday) due to track damage at several sites and a landslip near Mountain Ash. Will not operate a full service on Monday. Services will start and terminate at Pontypridd with a rail replacement bus service in place operating between Pontypridd – Aberdare.
- Conwy Valley Line – Line closed. A rail replacement bus service will operate between Llandudno Junction – Blaenau Ffestiniog until further notice.

What did the officials say?
Chris Pearce, Network Rail's head of operations for Wales and Borders and Bethan Jelfs, customer delivery director for Transport for Wales Rail Services said:
“Following flooding at a number of locations across Wales caused by heavy and sustained rain falling on already saturated ground, our frontline teams have been working around the clock to reopen affected lines.
“The south Wales mainline has now reopened between Cardiff – Bridgend with a normal service operating, and the Treherbert line has also now reopened.”
“For customers who were not be able to travel yesterday (Saturday 29 February) their tickets will be accepted and will be valid for travel today (Sunday 1 March) and Monday (2 March).
“Customers with season tickets for the Aberdare service can use their ticket to travel on any other reasonable route on the Valley Lines service.
“We are working closely together to minimise any disruption and will do all we can to keep our customers moving and informed but the situation is changing all the time and therefore services are likely to be disrupted with last minute alterations.
“Customers are advised to check their journey before travelling on nationalrail.co.uk or journeycheck.com/tfwrail/
“We would like to thank customers in advance for their patience and understanding.”
