Project to upgrade these Derbyshire railway level crossings start next month

Network Rail has announced that it will start next month to improve Tutbury level crossing in Derbyshire.

Engineers will be replacing the old barrier gates with modern barriers. This will help to reduce delays to services and mean that the level crossing remains fit for purpose.

Improvement work will also take place at Hockley level crossing in and level crossing in .

This work will not impact on train services, but there will be changes to access for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

The improvement work will take place during the following dates:

  • Work will take place at Tutbury level crossing between Wednesday, 11 March and Monday, 16 March.
    • During this time there will be no access for motorists and a clearly signposted diversionary route will be in place. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
  • Hockley level crossing will be closed between Wednesday, 4 March and Monday, 9 March.
    • A clearly signposted diversionary route for motorists will be in place.
  • Work will also take place Alrewas level crossing between Wednesday, 25 March and Monday, 30 March.
    • Pedestrian access will be maintained during this time.

What did the officials say?

Vinny Briggs, Route Level Crossing Manager for , said:

“This is really important work to modernise these level crossings in Derbyshire and the surrounding area and make sure they remain fit for purpose.

“The new barriers will improve the reliability of the level crossings in the Derbyshire area and therefore, help to reduce delays on the railway.

“We are working hard to minimise any disruption whilst this work takes place and would like to thank all those impacted for their patience.”

  • Could also do with a footbridge as well at Tutbury level crossing as seen on the picture. So that people can cross over the railway tracks safely when the trains are coming and the barriers are coming down.
