Thameslink has announced that it will be increasing the number of trains that run between Cambridge and Brighton at the weekend.
The new timetable, in effect from Sunday 17 May, will double the number of Saturday services on the route to two trains per hour.
Additionally, six Hertfordshire stations will gain the extra direct service to London and Brighton each hour – these are Royston, Ashwell & Morden, Baldock, Letchworth Garden City, Hitchin and Stevenage, from where it will run fast to Finsbury Park.
On Sundays, the existing hourly Cambridge to Gatwick Airport trains will be extended to run to and from Brighton.
What did the officials say?
Thameslink Managing Director, Tom Moran, said:
“These extra services, which are the only significant timetable changes on this part of the Thameslink network, will make it much easier and more convenient for our Cambridge and Hertfordshire passengers on a weekend, whether they are travelling to London, on to Gatwick Airport and the south coast, or connecting to another route.”

That’s good for Thameslink. Perhaps they could expand their network further to other destinations in the Southeast such as to Canterbury, Maidstone, Ashford International, Lewis, Eastbourne, Hastings, Kings Lynn and to Kettering once the electrification on the MML (Bedford-Kettering) is completed.
