Greater Anglia has announced that new figures show that the Bittern Line, which runs from Norwich to Sheringham, has seen some of its best-ever performance figures.
Results for the four weeks from 9 January 2020, after level crossings were upgraded have revealed that more than 97.3% of trains ran on time.
The Bittern Line services are now operated by the operator's new bi-mode trains and have seen a consistent increase in passenger numbers in the past 23 years.
The train operator has also introduced hourly Sunday services, new ticket vending machines and a new platform at Sheringham.
What did the officials say?
Jonathan Denby, Head of Corporate Affairs, said:
“We're pleased to have delivered some excellent performance in recent weeks on the Bittern Line. The new trains offer a positive transformation in terms of service quality.
“We apologise again for the problems customers suffered in December. We are fully committed to maintaining the very high standards of the last month, maximising the benefits for local communities and giving Bittern Line customers the best train service the line has ever seen.”
“The aim now is to maintain these positive trends to benefit customers, communities and the wider economy in North Norfolk, as well as continuing to improve reliability and punctuality across the network.”

The Class 755/3/4 is also operating on the Wherry Lines (Norwich-Great Yarmouth & Lowestoft), Breckland Line (Norwich-Ely/Cambridge & Peterborough), East Suffolk Lines (Ipswich-Lowestoft & Felixstowe), Ipswich-Cambridge & Ely Lines, Gainsborough Line (Marks Tey-Sudbury) and Herewere Line (Ely-Peterborough).
And the Class 745/0 is now taking over the Norwich-Liverpool Street Intercity service with Class 745/1 to be introduced on the Stansted Express service and Class 720/1/5 to be introduced on the West Anglia and Essex Commuter routes throughout this year.
