ScotRail now has 1,016 train carriages in service, following the introduction of the Hitachi Class 185 trains into service in December 2019.
These additional carriages make it an increase of 28% from the previous franchise.
The new Class 385s are replacing the now-retired Class 314 trains that were introduced in 1979.
The Class 385s operate across Central Scotland, with an eight carriage service between Glasgow and Edinburgh following a platform extension at Glasgow Queen Street by Network Rail.
ScotRail is also refurbishing its HST sets to Inter7City standards, to connect the seven cities across the Edinburgh to Aberdeen line and beyond. Both the refurbished HSTs and the new Class 385s are part of the £475 million investment by Abellio.

Alex Hynes, Managing Director of Scotland's Railway, said:
“We know that one of the biggest concerns for our customers is busy trains, so to now have more than one thousand carriages delivering more seats across the network is another import milestone for ScotRail.”
“The introduction of our new and upgraded trains has also helped improve journey times and provide a better experience for our customers.”
