Metro apprentice makes first steps in management career

has announced that a former apprentice has taken his begun his first management role at the .

Law Atkinson has become a Metro Signalling Supervisor after completing a degree in electrical and electronic engineering.

Law will now oversee the maintenance of the Metro's signalling systems across its 48-mile network.

He joined Nexus in 2012 on its apprenticeship scheme.

What did the officials say?

He said:

“I'm really pleased to get this new role. It is the next step in my career progression, having started out as an apprentice.

“I did my degree and getting that has been a big help in getting me to the next level. It's more responsibility for me but I'm relishing the challenge. It's my job to supervise all of the teams who carry out maintenance work on the Metro's signalling systems.”

Head of Maintenance Delivery at Nexus, Steve Shiel, said:

“Law absolutely deserves the opportunity he has obtained within the Signals Maintenance Team in his new role as Section Supervisor. This is a moment to celebrate for our organisation where a former apprentice has progressed deservedly to a position within our Signals Management grades which has been underpinned from the key skills, knowledge and behaviours he obtained from his time as an apprentice with us.

“We are absolutely committed to developing our workforce who have the drive and determination to progress and make a difference, and Law is a perfect example where his enthusiasm and drive has worked hand in hand with his determination to succeed within Nexus.”
