23-day re-signalling project on Greater Anglia routes

has released revised timetables for services between Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft while 23 days of re- works are carried out.

The work is being carried out by Network Rail and involves replacing Victoria semaphore signals with brand new modern signalling.

Different phases of the work will begin on the 1st of February lasting for around 3 weeks, and so Rail Replacement buses will be operating on some routes.

According to the Greater Anglia website, the bus service will be operating as follows:

Saturday 1 February to Sunday 2 February
Rail replacement bus service between Norwich and Yarmouth

Monday 3 February to Sunday 16 February
Rail replacement bus service between Norwich and Yarmouth, Norwich and Lowestoft and Beccles and Lowestoft

Monday 17 February to Sunday 23 February
Rail replacement bus service between Norwich and Lowestoft

After these works have been completed, Berney Arms station will re-open. The railway station, which is only accessible by rail, foot or boat has been closed since the Autumn of 2018.

What did the officials say?

Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director, said:

“We apologise in advance to customers for the inconvenience this long period of works causes.

“We will make sure that everyone is still able to complete their journey, even if part of it is by bus.

“The work is an important part of the transformation and modernisation of the railway in this part of our network, and should lead to a much more reliable service for our customers.”
