and have issued a joint statement with regards to the ongoing disruption which is affecting routes in Norfolk and Suffolk.

The issues relate to track signalling systems and have made it impossible to run the usual timetabled service.

At the time of writing, there were 41 train cancellations showing on the Greater Anglia website.

The joint statement from Mark Budden, Network Rail Anglia Route Director, and Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia Managing Director is as follows

“We are extremely sorry for the continued disruption to passengers using regional routes in Norfolk and Suffolk.

“Our engineers have been working round the clock to investigate why we are having problems with the track signalling system, which has led to us reducing the number of services we can run. We are examining every factor including components of the signalling system, the impact of leaf fall, and the interaction between the signalling system and passenger trains, old and new.

“We both fully appreciate that this situation is extremely frustrating for passengers and it is an absolute priority for us to get these problems resolved as soon as possible. We will provide a further update as soon we have more detail. We plan to restore normal services for our passengers as soon as we can. In the meantime, Greater Anglia is making sure that customers can still complete their journeys.”

  • There was no problem with the level xings on the anglia lines with the 156/158/170/ 153.Yes leaf fall is a problem and why do the RHTT not run at the W/E ?
Were Stadler advise that the xings where not activated by axle counters as is the case abroad? It’s a pity this has happened with the new trains, will there be problems on the GE when the new trains start running? I hope not.

  • Or should Stadler be blamed for building these new trains with so many problems. Because even though they have manufactured hundreds or thousands of new rolling stocks for countries in and around Europe and worldwide. There has been so many problems with the trains they have built.

But I still think that Stadler are one of the best train manufacturing companies in the world. I just hope that these new trains will soon be fixed and operating on local rural railway lines in East Anglia.

  • Managing Director Jamie Burles has made the train operator a complete joke. With new and old trains keep on breaking down time after time. He should be responsible for keeping the network running without trains breaking down and letting passengers and commuters in such disarray. He is a complete disgrace.
