Steam locomotive 44871 replaces broken A4 tomorrow

Ex-LMS ‘Black 5’ No. 44871 will replace broken Ex-LNER ‘A4’ No. 60009 ‘Union of South Africa’ tomorrow on its tour to Shrewsbury.

60009 cant haul this tour because of a bearing problem – more on this here.

Departing Slough at 06:33, the locomotive will pass through Burnham (06:37), Maidenhead (06:42), Twyford (06:50), Reading (06:50), Swindon (08:17), Bristol Parkway (09:00), Magor (09:35), Abergavenny (10:43), Hereford (11:13), Leominster (11:30), Ludlow (11:58), Church Stretton (12:22) and Shrewsbury at 12:40.

The return journey will depart at 16:55 and will pass through Church Stretton (17:16), Craven Arms (17:26), Ludlow (17:52), Leominster (18:09), Hereford (18:25), Abergavenny (18:54), Pontypool & New Inn (19:06), Cwmbran (19:21), Pilning (20:18), Bristol Parkway (20:27), Swindon (21:11), Didcot Parkway (22:20), Reading (22:41), and Slough at 23:08.
