New patrols are now being carried out at Cambridge station's cycle point as part of a drive that is being made in order to improve security.
Cambridge cycle point is open 24 hours a day, seven-days-a-week, providing free safe and secure parking in the largest facility of its type that can be found at a UK rail station.
It has 2,850 cycle parking spaces spread over three different floors, which are covered by a large network of CCTV cameras. The cycle point is also patrolled by Greater Anglia staff regularly, every four hours.
And now, additional patrols will take place at least eight times a day, to further improve the security that is at this free facility.
Alongside the patrols, there will be regular meetings to discuss how Greater Anglia can work with customers and local authorities to continue to keep the cycle point as secure as is possible. Station staff will also continue to patrol the site every four hours.
Greater Anglia and Cambridgeshire Police are hosting the final session of a series of safety and information events this week.
Cambridgeshire Police will be offering theft prevention advice, registering cycles, and reminding customers how they can report any issues. The event will be held on Wednesday the 27th of November from 12.00 till 15.00.
Cambridge cycle point is conveniently located at the Cambridge railway station and has a dedicated area for cargo bikes, and a range of stands and two-tier racks.
There is also a bike shop on the ground floor which services bicycles and sells accessories for them.

Mike Barry, Greater Anglia's Area Customer Service Manager, said:
“Cambridge station cycle point is used by thousands of people every day.
“We take customer feedback very seriously, and although the number of thefts remains low, we are doing all we can to reduce the number.
“We are committed to providing secure, free cycle parking across our network and have recently been awarded £1.1 million from the Department for Transport's Cycle Rail Programme and local authorities to further improve cycle parking, including CCTV and better lighting at stations.”

Not sure what happened to the increased security. I left my cycle there Saturday 22 August 2020 and was stolen when I returned 23 August 2020, with a big lock that someone had used bolt cutters on.
So why is Cambridge station’s cycle point always a target for bike thefts. At least there will be security on hand. As well there is CCTV.
