Colchester railway station waiting room transformed

Colchester rail station has had its waiting room transformed into an art gallery, thanks to a local sixth form college and the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership.

An exhibition of 26 works by art students at Colchester Sixth Form College is on display and was unveiled by the students on 15 November.

The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership is an initiative involving , Essex County Council and local organisations aimed at helping the rail lines and the communities they serve to thrive.

What did the officials say?

Community Rail Partnership Officer, Terri Ryland, said:

“I am really impressed by the stunning quality of work the students have produced.”

“It has transformed the waiting room and will not only provide a source of interest while people wait for their trains, but bring the students' work to an audience of thousands who pass through the station every day.”

Alan Neville, Greater Anglia's Customer and Community Engagement Manager, said:

“We were very pleased to donate the space for this excellent project and are grateful to the students, the College and the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership for putting together such a high quality exhibition that will delight passengers.”

  • Greater Anglia should re-consider on reopening the derelict closed waiting room shelter at Colchester Town station. And to fit new CCTV. Despite fears of more vandalism.
