DO NOT TRAVEL: Railway electric wires SNAP near Lancaster – UPDATED

A broken down train between Preston and is resulting in some lines being blocked between the two stations.

As a result of this, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until 10:30.

This disruption is affecting , and services and may affect your journey today.

Here is the latest:

27th November 2019 @ 15:30

Trains are currently unable to run north of Preston.

Please allow for alterations, cancellations and extended journey times of up to 60 minutes.

Major disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.

Northern customer advice:

A limited train service is in operation between Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness in both directions.

Replacement road transport is operating between the following stations:

  • between Preston and Lancaster (provided by Coastal Coaches, S Line, South Lakes and Longridge)
  • between Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness (provided by Rears and KT's Coaches)
Ticket acceptance has been agreed with TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains between Manchester, Preston and Lancaster where possible.
TransPennine Express customer advice:

 

TransPennine Express are advising customers NOT TO TRAVEL.

To help with your journey, you may use your ticket to travel to and from Scotland via the East Coast Main Line on CrossCountry and LNER services. This will involve travelling via York or Newcastle, for connections to / from Edinburgh.

Replacement road transport is in place to operate between the following stations:

  • Preston
  • Carlisle
  • Lockerbie
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow

Please be advised this will add SIGNIFICANT time to your journey.

Tickets dated for today 27th November are able to be used on the 28th and 29th November.

Virgin Trains customer advice:

Virgin Trains are advising customers NOT TO TRAVEL. Tickets will be accepted for travel tomorrow.

To help with your journey, tickets will be accepted on the following services:

  • LNER services between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh
  • ScotRail services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central
  • TransPennine Express services via any reasonable route (Please note TransPennine Express are also in major disruption and are advising customers NOT TO TRAVEL.)
  • Northern on any reasonable route
  • CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Edinburgh

Damage to the overhead electric wires and the earlier broken down train in the Lancaster area are now both resulting in all lines being blocked between these stations.

Trains will be cancelled, delayed by up to 120 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until at least 15:00.

Northern customer advice:

A limited service is in operation between Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness

Replacement road transport has been requested to operate on the following routes:

  • between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere
  • between Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness

There is no estimate for when replacement transport will be in operation.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

TransPennine Express are advising customers NOT TO TRAVEL unless absolutely necessary.

Replacement road transport has been requested to operate at the following stations:

  • Preston
  • Carlisle
  • Lockerbie
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
