The production of new class 720 commuter trains for Greater Anglia is well underway at the Bombardier factory in Derby, with the 20th train now in production.
111 new ten and five carriage trains are in production, 655 carriages in total. These will serve the Greater Anglia routers into London Liverpool Street.
The first train is due on the network later this year, with the 20th train now in production.
The twentieth train is now on the production line at Bombardier's factory in Derby, after the team was expanded at the factory.
The new trains will have Wifi, air conditioning, under-floor heating, better passenger information screens, plug, and USB sockets.
The carriages will have more seats and the trains will be longer, with better accessibility features and 4 spaces for cycles.
What did the officials say?
Ian McConnell, Greater Anglia franchise and programmes director, said:
“We're looking forward to getting the first Bombardier train on our network.
“We've started replacing our diesel trains in the north of our network with new trains – and we know customers on the rest of the network are keen to see new trains on their routes too.
“Bombardier trains will replace all of our existing electric trains on commuter routes in Essex, Cambridge, Suffolk and Hertfordshire.”
Alan Fravolini, Bombardier project director, Greater Anglia said:
“We're really cracking on with these great new trains for Greater Anglia. Production is accelerating with a strengthened team and we are all focused on passenger service as soon as possible.”

Can a 5-Car Class 720/5 train fit on a bay platform at Wickford. Because I think the platform is too short. Or will it be capable to fit on the bay platform.
It heralds the end of an era for the 321s, which are definitely showing their age; not sure what happens to the 30 ‘refurbs’, would seem a waste to scrap them. The 360s we know are destined for Corby services (don’t see the punters being very happy!). Understand no 1st class on the 370, presume GA will have to refund some ticket holders when they are introduced. Well done Bombardier.
