Railway flourishes at Beautiful Scotland Awards

Five groups on Scotland's Railway triumphed from the 12 categories and 13 discretionary awards.

The ceremony has recognised the volunteer commitment across the country and their hard work to improve the places they care for.

station adopters North Berwick in Bloom took home top prize as well as the Coastal Town Trophy and Community Horticultural Award.

North Berwick in Bloom's enthusiastic team of volunteers work all year round on various projects around the town, including at North Berwick railway station.

The volunteers maintain 28 barrel-planters, a barrel train, station garden and the immediate surrounding area.

Other winners on the night were Uddingston Pride who won the Urban Community Trophy.

Lanark in Bloom picked up the Haddington 700 Award.

Volunteer group Milngavie in Bloom won the VisitScotland Award for Tourism, whose work to improve the local environment stretches from Milngavie station to the Antonine Garden.

Inverurie Environmental Improvement Group picked up a gold medal for their work to provide floral displays for the public.

What did the officials say?

ScotRail Community Development Executive Tracy Stevenson said:

“I'd like to congratulate the winners and thank all the volunteers for their hard work and contribution, not just to Scotland's Railway, but to the wider local community.

“Supporting local communities and their projects is incredibly important, and these award wins showcase the fantastic work of our many volunteers across Scotland's Railway.”
