The LMS-Patriot Project has recently been preparing their engine, New-Build London, Midland and Scottish Railway “Patriot” Class No. 5551 “The Unknown Warrior” for the journey South.

Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust

Back in early July 2019, The LMS-Patriot Project announced that the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust’s offer to complete “The Unknown Warrior” had been accepted.

Since then, both groups have been preparing for the locomotive to move from Crewe Heritage Centre down to The West Shed on the Midland Railway – Butterley.

Many of the parts to finish 5551 are stored inside a box van, which will be moved as well. At The West Shed, the bay and inspection pit where the engine will be worked on has been cleaned and painted before arrival.
