Thanks to a community project involving local school children, rail passengers at Dovercourt station can now read poetry as they wait for trains.

The children from Harwich Community Primary School swapped their classroom for the station waiting room.

This was as part of the ‘Words between the Lines' project, it was organised by the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership and was funded by Wordsart back in March.

During the event, the pupils, aged 8 and 9 years, wrote poems on the train from Harwich Town to Manningtree.

Their words have now been turned into huge posters which have been installed at Dovercourt rail station.

The pupils also recently received rail safety awareness training in school with representatives from the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership.

What did the officials have to say?

Terri Ryland, Community Rail Officer, said,

“The children were so proud to see their work on display at the station.

“It's an ideal place as the poems will be seen and enjoyed by plenty of people as they wait for their trains.”

Alan Neville, 's Customer and Community Engagement Manager, said

“I'd like to thank the children of Harwich Community Primary for their fantastic work which I'm sure will welcome and delight everyone who visits the station.”

“We are also very grateful to the Community Rail Partnership for doing this important rail safety work but also building links with the community by providing a really rewarding, creative and fun day out by train.”
