The Watercress Line (Mid Hants Railway) and Urie Locomotive Society Ltd (ULS) are pleased to announce that Southern Railway S15 No.506 will formally re-enter revenue earning services on Sunday 2nd of June 2019.

Overhaul

Withdrawn from traffic roughly 18 years ago, 30506 awaited an overhaul to commence. A few years of storage pending contract finalisation, and the long and hard task of dismantling the engine began.

Many repairs need and issues had been noted but a few surprises appeared along the road to a new boiler ticket. Members of both the MHR's and ULS' teams have overcome any challenges and overhauled components to a high standard.

Over the next 10 days the teams will carry out small outstanding tasks and trial runs which if successful, subject to completion, should see 506 in Southern Wartime Black with “Southern” in Sunshine Yellow on the tender livery.

Anyone who wants to take a ride behind 506 on the 2nd of June can book tickets here.
