£1m upgrade to upgrade passenger satisfaction

ScotRail has announced that it has recently installed new equipment at train depots in order to improve customer satisfaction on the railway in Scotland.

Upgraded Control Emission Toilet (CET) discharge facilities have been installed at Yoker and Eastfield stabling depots, with planned further investments at Fort William station, allowing more trains to be serviced at the same time.

Since 2015, ScotRail has extended its fleet of trains with the arrival of brand-new Class 385s electric trains, refurbished Inter7City high-speed trains and refurbished Class 320s.

The additional trains and growing popularity of travel on the rail put pressure on existing equipment to cope with this demand.

ScotRail's fleet of Class 385s, which can be operated with up to eight-carriages, use Eastfield stabling depot near Glasgow as a hub for servicing, while Yoker depot is home to many electric trains used in the area of Strathclyde.

The new facility available at Fort William will also service the new Caledonian Sleeper trains and extended timetable on the iconic West Highland Line.

The £1 million projects funding came through Network Rail's Control Period 5 Scottish Network Improvement Fund, where investment was made available in order to deliver enhancements to the rail network and the rail network services.

ScotRail Project Manager Alisdair Tennant said:

“The installation of the new equipment at these depots mean more trains can now be serviced at the same time. This will allow the depot team to get trains back in passenger service faster and with the high level of cleanliness our customers expect.”
