RMT has announced that the 47th day of strike action on Northern Rail goes ahead as planned tomorrow in the continued dispute about the role of the guard.

Please be aware that trains may start to end by 5 pm tomorrow.
The union is preparing to lobby Transport for the North in Chester next Thursday as follows:
Thursday 7th February – 10.30 – 12.00 – Council Chamber, Chester Town Hall, 33 Northgate Street, Chester, CH1 2HQ
The RMT has also called for a big public meeting in the city later in the afternoon where speakers will include Mick Cash:
Thursday 7th February – 5.00pm – 7.00pm – St Werburgh's Catholic Parish Centre 26 Brook Street, Chester, CH1 3DZ
What did the officials say?
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said:
“RMT members will be standing solid again tomorrow for the 47th day in support of a safe and accessible railway for all in the long-running fight to put public safety before private profit.
“It comes in the week that Northern slumped to second bottom in the league tables on passenger satisfaction and speculation ramped up about a fire sale of the Arriva operation by their owner Deutsche Bahn.
“On Thursday we will be lobbying members of Transport for the North over the dispute at their meeting in Chester and we will be setting out the case for the guard and safe, accessible services on Northern trains at a public meeting later that afternoon.
“Now is the time for the company to face up their responsibilities and guarantee a safety-critical guard on every train with the full suite of competencies .
“We thank the public for their support and understanding throughout this dispute over rail safety and access and the union remains ready for genuine and serious talks.”

They have no respect for people being penalised, losing money for not being able to get to work due to their striking. If they can’t be bothered working. Get rid. They argue they are there for passenger safety. They clearly don’t care for our Safety on Saturdays !!!
Sick to the back teeth of the WHOLE DEBACLE i livein Bolton .. and commute into Machester for work .. monday to friday over the past 2 years plus have been a challenge ….but the weekend strikes cost me more money and extended my working days having to find other ways of getting to and from work .. taxis.. trams .. its the passengars that they are hurting so you seriously believe we support you .. deluded .. I have had enough…. andbi can houch for many others in my situation .. its beyond acceptable sort it ….
I reckon Northern with the strikes continuing will eventually reach to 50 strikes. Still they are UK’s worst rail franchising operator that has coincided so many strikes than other train operators in 5 years+. How long will the franchise last. Why can’t the government just ask them to be stripped from operation and let the government take charge of the Northern rail franchise by themselves. Just like they are managing the East Coast Main Line franchise (London North Eastern Railway).
