Snow ploughs out in force for the cold snap

Network Rail has announced that their frontline teams are ready and are prepared to keep train passengers on the move through snow and ice.

Between London Euston and Carlisle, via the Chilterns, West Midlands and North West, there are six snow ploughs and eight de-icing trains ready and waiting.

Hundreds of staff armed with a specialist ice-busting kit are ready to defrost frozen points and signals.

If you are travelling this winter, make sure you keep an eye on the National Rail website for the latest travel information and stay safe in the weather.

What did the officials say?

Phil James, head of operations for , said:

“Careful planning for the winter months means we have measures in place to help keep trains and passengers moving during cold snaps.

“Our fleet of trains and dedicated teams will help clear ice and snow and deal with rail issues should they arise.

“To be prepared, I would urge passengers to always plan their journeys and check before they travel for the latest information.”

  • There needs to be more of these to be used on other lines no matter where it’s forecast to snow or colder arctic weather that might be coming every winter.
