Hull Trains celebrate 18 years of service

Hull Trains, the long distance train operating company, is celebrating 18 years since the first ever train departed from Hull, bound for London.

is the UK's smallest train operator and was born on the 25th September 2000. It served just over 80,000 people in its first year, providing East Yorkshire with a link to London.

Moving to 2018, Hull Trains is now set to reach the 10 millionth passenger journey, with numbers continuing to grow.

The focus on customer service has resulted in multiple awards for the train operating company.

The business is also continuing to invest into the community, with new trains set to arrive from December 2019 thanks to a £60m investment.

What did the officials say?

Louise Cheeseman, Managing Director at Hull Trains, said:

“We are very proud to serve Hull and East Yorkshire with direct links to London and we'd like to thank all our customers and the team for their support over the last 18 years.

“We're dedicated to providing a great service for our customers and we are aiming to work closely with local businesses over the next year in order to further enhance that service.

“We have had a fantastic 18 years and the team is looking forward to the next few years, with a new fleet that will be able to seat more people and improve efficiency, while reducing journey times.”

  • From late next year. We will see the Class 802 IET in service that Hull Trains have ordered that will replace the Class 180 Adelante DMUs to be cascaded to Grand Central.
