Hull Trains has reported higher passenger numbers after it handed out record numbers of strawberries and cream to celebrate Wimbledon.
The past few years has seen the train operator provide First Class passengers with a traditional Wimbledon treat when using the train service.
This year has seen an unseen amount of strawberries given away, with an increase of 15% over the last year.
Hull Trains has seen a 1% increase in journeys in periods 1-4 (removing bookings) compared to the same periods last year.
What did the officials say?
Katie Beckett, On-Board Experience Manager, said:
“We always endeavour to surprise and delight customers where we can with added extras during specific times of the year. Strawberries and cream has always been well-received by our customers during Wimbledon and we've seen such a positive response to the gesture.
“The amount that we have given away this year is a strong indication that people are making the most of the weather and making trips to and from the capital.”
Katie continued:
“Hull Trains is focused on providing the high levels of personalised customer service that we are renowned for.
“The team is aiming to provide more as part of our service in the coming months on selected services, so we encourage customers to make the most of this by booking a First Class ticket.”
Louise Cheeseman, Hull Trains' Managing Director, said:
“We've continued to see more customers use our services, which provide the people of Hull with their only direct link to London in just over two hours.
“We continue to receive compliments about our customer service from people that use our services regularly, and, being the UK's smallest train operator, we are able to offer a more personalised service.
“The growing passenger numbers bode well as we wait for our new trains to come into action in December 2019, which will provide 20% extra seating capacity and the ability for quicker journey times.”
